Most of our thinking (more than 90%) goes on in our subconscious. Our conscious thought is just a thin layer on top. It is our subconscious that determines our personality, our attitudes and our response to events.

So, if we want to change our attitudes, we have to influence our subconscious. But it is very difficult to talk to the subconscious through the conscious mind.

This is why we are usually almost unaware that we have a subconscious mind, even though it does most of our thinking. And this is why most therapies that work through the conscious mind, such as psychoanalysis and counselling, are so slow and laborious, and have a relatively poor record of success.

Hypnotherapy, which talks directly with the subconscious, is very quick and effective. Many problems can be resolved with just one session, though some may require several sessions.

A hypnotic trance is like a day dream. The hypnotist talks with your subconscious mind while your conscious mind is distracted. But the hypnotist cannot persuade you to do anything that you don't want to do. This is why hypnotherapy will only succeed for you if you really do want to change.
